CMAQ chemical mechanisms, such as CB4, use a set of “model species” to represent atmospheric chemistry (see Chapter 5). However, the emissions inventory contains a wide variety of pollutants. The SMOKE program Spcmat creates a speciation matrix to convert the emission pollutants to the model species for the chemical mechanism used in the CMAQ model.
