Emissions data are essential to the CMAQ model. The Sparse Matrix Operator Kernel Emissions (SMOKE) modeling system is recommended for the creation of the emissions input into CMAQ. The SMOKE model is public domain software and is being widely used in research and operational modeling applications. SMOKE is continually being updated and enhanced. An overview of the SMOKE modeling system is given below.
